Limited Test of WarnMe System on Wednesday
Campuswide proactive Alert System Now Has 16,000 signed On
At noon next Wednesday, November 5, UC Berkeley will test the campus's new WarnMe emergency alert system. A random sample of 2,000 students, staff, and faculty will receive a test message via phone, e-mail, or text message at that time. Test participants will be contacted in advance by e-mail (if they registered an e-mail address in WarnMe) with instructions on how to respond to the test message.
This test will be held in conjunction with the regular monthly test of campus emergency communication systems, including warning sirens. Although some disturbance is unavoidable, the hour of the test was chosen to limit the impact on classes and other campus activities.
Since mid-July, more than 16,000 students, faculty, and staff have signed up for WarnMe, an opt-in system that sends alerts in the event of a campus emergency. If you have not yet registered, or for more information on the system, please visit http://warnme.berkeley.edu. For questions about the upcoming test, contact the Office of Emergency Preparedness at oep@berkeley.edu.
